Rules for In-Depth Conversation, Argument, Negotiation, Conviction, and Persuasion.
When you try convince, argue, persuade, or read someone’s mind, you will make the whirlwind heed the ant. Use the rules below.
And this is how you will begin. This is the arithmeticks of dialectics.
The rules to manipulate what each person holds true.
Use these when, principally, you are trying to influence someone. That is…
— make them do something you want.
— make them believe something.
— make them feel a particular emotion.
— read their intent and what they hold dear.
— make them love or hate something or someone.
— strengthen or weaken their clinging to an attachment.
The core of Social Violence is Attachments. We all have them. That is why we are in Hingsajagra.
Attachments can be beliefs in something. Ideology, paradigm, superstition, and so on. It can also be a bond, a strong relationship, longing, nostalgia or tie to a place, person, organization, item, promise, and so on.
Attachments have three levels: Subtle, Gross, and Karmic.
You start with Karmic Attachments to your Origin, Truth, and Alignment.
You start with one Gross Attachment.
You start with one Subtle Attachment.
This can be an attachment to someone else in your party. Roll a d6…
6 — You hate this person for something they did in the past.
4-5 — You’re wary of this person because of something they did.
2-3 — You’re fond of this person, but not anymore.
1 — You’re hopelessly in love with this person. You’ve never told them.
Attachments should be written as:
[Subtle/Gross/Karmic] Attachment to [Thing/Object/Belief/Place/Organization/Item/Promise, etc.] + (Context) [Hate/Wary/Fond/In Love/Respect/Wish/Loyalty/Devotion/Zeal/etc.].
Example: Karmic Attachment to Communism (Political Ideology).
Example: Subtle Attachment to Jayis Atasangga (Lover).
Example Gross Attachment to The Black Knights of Beruang (Closest Friends).
Some attachments are fleeting yet powerful passions. These are Emotions. The most common emotions are Joy, Sadness, Bravery, Fear, and so on. The effects of these Emotions are powerful, in-fiction effects that can affect behaviors and even in-combat performance.
Using Emotions as leverage is more potent: they grant +2/+3/+4 dice to the social influence roll. At the caveat that Emotions are more fleeting than Attachments.
Emotions are written as [Subtle/Gross/Karmic] Emotion of [Emotion]. And they are often temporary, only lasting an hour to a day or so. Any longer than that then that might be a true Attachment!
